What does one do after leaving the most powerful job in the world? In his best-selling book, Life After Power, Jared Cohen tells how seven former presidents decided what to do with the rest of their lives, and how they made history in the process. Each was chosen, the author tells us, because “each of the seven did something that none of their predecessors or successors did.” Using Cohen’s book as both text and point of departure, this course will consider the choices each of these presidents made—within the biographical, political and historical context of the era in which they were made. (Discounted copies of the book are available locally for purchase at the Market Street Book Store located in Mashpee Commons, and a limited number of copies will be available for checkout via the CLAMS network.)
In addition, the class will consider what lessons to consider for anyone contemplating the next chapter in their own lives. The 8-week course will begin on Friday, April 11th from 10:30-12:00 in Mashpee Public Library’s Event Room and will proceed for the next 8 Fridays, ending May 30th.
The class is limited to 65 participants. Registration is required. Participants should register for the first class only, but will be signed up for the entire series. Please click here to register.
