Kids Summer Reading 2024

|

The weather’s warming up…school’s almost out…it must be summer! Get ready – the Library will be launching its Summer Reading program on Monday, June 17 and will continue until August 30.

Read and Bead will return for its 2nd year, this time with some fun updates. Children can select their own reading materials, including books, magazines, graphic novels and audio books.  Any kind of reading counts! Here’s how it works.

Upon registering for summer reading, you will receive a free book (while supplies last), a hypoallergenic ball and chain necklace, and a brag tag of your choice to start off. You can register in person at the Children’s Desk or online at https://mashpeepubliclibrary.beanstack.org

Use either our paper tracking log or the Beanstack website’s tracking system to count your time spent reading. As soon as you’ve read for 15 minutes, you’ve already earned your first bead. The more reading you log, the more beads you earn!  We have 4 levels of beads to earn and you can even trade your current beads in to level up.

This summer, we are adding the ability to earn more brag tags! For every 4 hours you read, you will be able to pick out another to add to your necklace. We have plenty of new designs to choose from.

Also new this summer is the chance for you to earn a free ice cream cone AND a sundae from Polar Cave in Mashpee. You must read for 12 hours to earn a cone and for 36 hours to earn a sundae. Visit the Children’s Desk to redeem your coupon once you’ve earned this delicious treat!

Keep an eye out on our events calendar for all of the fun summertime activities and events at the Library. You never know when something new will be added! Check below for a sneak peek of some of our events.
