A late 19th-century horror novella and classic favorite, this is the story of a governess and her two, very peculiar, charges living on a spooky estate.  The movie adaptation stars Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard and Brooklynn Prince.  Release Date: January 24

 

The Rhythm Section by Mark Burnell

This suspense fiction favorite tell the story of Stephanie Patrick, a woman who loses her entire family in a plane crash.  When a journalist uncovers that the crash wasn’t an accident – Stephanie focuses on one goal: revenge.   Starring Blake Lively, Sterling K. Brown and Jude Law, the movie will be has a release date of January 31.

 

Emma By Jane Austen

The classic novel about Emma Woodhouse, a young woman who plays matchmaker and tries to manage and  the lives of her friends and family, creating all sorts of entertaining disasters.  This film adaptation stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Josh O’Connor and Rupert Graves. Release date: February 21

 

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

A beloved childhood classic, The Call of the Wild is the story of Buck, a sled dog in the Klondike.  With an all star cast including Harrison Ford, Karen Gillan and Bradley Whitford, this movie version is set to be released on February 21.

 

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Another childhood favorite about orphan, Mary Lennox who moves in with her uncle.  She soon discovers a mysterious garden that is always kept locked and a constant crying that seems to come from somewhere deep within the house.  Starring Colin Firth, Jemma Powell and Julie Walters the release date is April 17.

 

The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn

Anna Fox, an agoraphobic New Yorker,  thinks she witnessed a murder.  But the supposed victim seems to be just fine, it brings everything Anna saw — or didn’t see — into question. Starring Amy Adams, Julianne Moore and Gary Oldman, this adaptation is sure to be thrilling.  Release date: May 15

 

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

Ivan is a laid-back gorilla who enjoys television and loves to draw. When he meets a baby elephant named Ruby, he comes to see his life and his artwork in a whole new way. This animated movie adaptation by Disney features the voice work of Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Danny Devito and Bryan Cranston.  Release date: August 14

 

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Christie’s beloved detective Hercule Poirot is aboard a river cruise along the Nile when a young woman suffers a gunshot to the head.  A traditional whodunit, all the characters are hiding something and everyone is suspect.  The movie will star Kenneth Branagh, Gal Gadot, Annette Bening and Armie Hammer.  Release date: October 9

 

Dune by Frank Herbert

This sci-fi adventure is about Arrakis, a desert land,  where everyone longs to get their hands on a substance that can add years to one’s life.  When the rulers of Arrakis are betrayed, young Paul Atreides, heir to the throne, begins a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined.  The movie adaptation stars Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson and Timothee Chalamet. Release date: December 18

 

News of the World by Paulette Jiles

This historical fiction bestseller is set in Texas following the Civil War. Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd is hired to bring an orphan girl who was taken by Kiowa raiders back to her kin — only to discover that they do not want her. Starring Tom Hanks, Neil Sandilands and Helena Zengel this adaptation is due to be released on December 25.

 

Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance

This celebrated memoir shares the story of a white working class family in Ohio’s Rust Belt, their struggles with poverty, and the loss of their American Dream. Starring Amy Adams, Haley Bennett, Glenn Close and Gabriel Basso, this Netflix project doesn’t have a release date quite yet.
